Credit card customers need to get advice when struggling

Consumers who are struggling to repay their credit card debt and other debts are being advised to ensure that they seek help from industry professionals to avoid getting into too much of a financial mess.

In the current financial climate, and with the recession leading to massive job losses, many people are now struggling to keep on top of their unsecured debts such as credit cards and loans, and this could lead to huge problems in the future.

This warning has come from a leading debt charity, the Money Advice Trust, with officials from the group stating that the earlier consumers seek proper advice rather than burying their heads in the sand the better it will be in terms of being about to get the situation resolved quickly and effectively.

The group has said that anyone that is already struggling with or on the verge of struggling with debt needs to ensure that they take action and contact a debt charity of even the Citizen’s Advice Bureau as soon as possible.

The warning comes shortly after the International Monetary Fund warned that consumers in the UK were likely to experience increased difficulties and that there could be a credit card repayment crisis looming, where an increased number of cardholders start to default on repayments as their financial situations become more and more strained.

An official from The Money Advice Trust said: “If you are worried you might be getting into difficulty and you feel a drop in income might be on the horizon or are anticipating problems coming up, it is vital you get help earlier rather than later.”

She also said: “When getting debt advice you need to know about everything including the pros and cons and you need to get complete information on how all options of debt handling are going to affect you.”
